Workshop ‘Snowdrops’ with Laura Silburn at West Buckland Village Hall, TA3 5BY

“These early flowers are a great small-project subject with which to practise subtlety and sharpness in your painting. From the challenge of mixing greys for white flowers, to edges on strappy leaves, we will cover a range of techniques to make a small, defined piece of work. Initially looking at the construction of the flower and the plant, and which characteristics might be the most important to record in our drawings, we will work through the traditional line-tonal-watercolour method, ensuring that by the end of the day all the information you will need is recorded to allow you to go on to finish a botanical watercolour of the subject in your own time. “

Participants will need all their usual painting equipment: brushes, paints, palettes, paper (drawing, painting and tracing), water pots and kitchen towel/cloth, pencils – preferably including a propelling pencil, erasers, rulers or dividers for measuring and anything else you usually use. Participants will need to bring their own plant material to paint though I will try and bring spares for dissecting.”
