Rosie will cover mixing greens, browns and greys with six warm and cool primary colours in her Devon studio.

Colour Mixing Workshop with Rosie Martin

In this exciting colour workshop I will cover mixing greens, browns and greys using just six warm and cool primary colours: Winsor Lemon, Indian Yellow, Scarlet Lake, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine and Winsor Blue (Green Shade).

Green can be particularly troublesome for botanical artists. The vast majority of green shades can be mixed using the primaries. (The same goes for browns, greys and black.) Buying all the green paints available is not the answer, but in this workshop we will discover how to temper, adjust or alter different greens to make them fit for purpose.

We use the Johannes Itten 12-hue colour circle at all times. Johannes Itten is widely regarded as the father of colour theory and taught at the famous Bauhaus schools. His colour programme underpinned international art education throughout the 20th century.
